Yesterday, we commemorate the 101st birthday of Sosai Mas Oyama, the revered founder of Kyokushin Karate. His teachings, philosophy, and spirit continue to inspire and guide us all.
If Sosai Mas Oyama were with us today, he would undoubtedly be proud of the global reach and impact of Kyokushin Karate, with countless dojos and dedicated practitioners around the world. He would marvel at the community built on respect, discipline, and the rigorous training he championed. However, I believe he would also express concern about the fragmentation within the Kyokushin community.
Many organizations, while publicly expressing their respect and admiration for Sosai, fall short in supporting his family and preserving the integrity of his legacy. This lack of unity and genuine support would surely disappoint him.
To truly honor Sosai Mas Oyama’s legacy, we must go beyond mere words. Let us commit to upholding the core values he instilled in us and work together to support his family and the true vision of Kyokushin Karate.
I encourage everyone to visit the official Mas Oyama website and join us, registered by Chiyako Oyama, which faithfully preserves and promotes Sosai’s vision and history.
Together, let’s make a real difference and honor the spirit of Kyokushin.
In light,
Kuristina Oyama
